Description

ACGME-MSUCOM SCS Regional Assessment Training Course
Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment

Assessment is essential to all of education, and graduate medical education is no exception. With the introduction of competency- and outcomes-based education, and with the ACGME’s current accreditation model that includes the Milestones, the urgency for high quality GME programs to meet the needs of learners and the public has grown substantially.

MSUCOM SCS is collaborating with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to co-sponsor regional faculty development opportunities dedicated to the needs of physician educators. This focused 3 1/2-day course will explore competency-based medical education and include hands-on activities to develop faculty competencies in assessment. Participants will learn and employ multiple assessment tools and strategies, including an experiential component developing skills in feedback and direct observation. This course provides faculty with a concentrated dose of material on evaluation and assessment.

Target audience is faculty seeking to increase their knowledge and skills around the topic of assessment including residency and fellowship program directors, associate program directors, chairs and members of Clinical Competency Committees (CCCs), clerkship directors, and any core teaching faculty with major responsibility for the assessment of residents/fellows/medical students.

Highlights of this highly experiential, hands-on course curriculum include:

  • Goals and principles of CBME
  • Practical application of multiple assessment methods and tools
  • How to create effective assessment systems
  • How to use the Milestones and Entrustable Professional Activities effectively
  • Direct Observation: feedback on your feedback
